I find this material, http://wiki.videolan.org/Documentation:Play_HowTo/Format_String. I try the time code of the video in my filename prefix like this, 'scene-$T-'. But the scene filter does not output time code in the file name. Do those format string variables only support 0.9.0 version?
Thanks in advance.

Take a look @ the documentation on this page and variables, for me for example
- Tools -> Preferences
- Video
- On the snapshot section I put $N- which is the name of the file, you could actually do whatever you want with following variables
PipoPipo
I think there is a bug over this module, so I just write a separate function to extract the time info.

It's not clear from your questions whether you refer to taking video snapshots, but that's what I'll assume here.
Looking at the documentation (https://wiki.videolan.org/Documentation:Snapshots/), --snapshot-path and --snapshot-prefix can only be expanded from version 2.2.0. I.e. if you want to insert time and date as part of your snapshot filename, you will have to use VLC version 2.2.0 or greater.
A number of Linux distributions have not upgraded their stock VLC to 2.2.0, including Linux Mint, and, it seems Ubuntu. What you're trying to do works for me on Windows with the latest VLC.

I am adapting VLC to make a custom video player. I chose VLC because of its ability to play lots of formats, and because it allows me develop a custom skin for it very easily.
But I also want to restrict user access to the file system, for which I need to disable the right click menu. Is there a way to do this?

It's dumb that VLC doesn't have an Preferences option to toggle this but..
I did find an answer here:https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?t=82274
Relevant instructions:
- Open Regedit. Find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDirectoryshell.
- Under this key find each VLC key you would like to remove from folder context menus
- (optional) Rightclick each and choose export (just in case). Save the exported reg file with the name of the key plus '-dir'. To get only the key name and not the full registry path, first choose rename then instead of renaming when the name is highlighted rightclick and choose copy (before you export). Copy Key Name gives the full path instead of only the selected key.
- Delete the key.

Or just use CCleaner:
- Open CCleaner,Fallout 4 dark face bug fix. Thanks everyone who downloaded and endorsed the mod. Wow, I never expected this mod to grow so big.
- Chose Tools,
- Select Startup,
- Go to context menu column on the right,
- Find what program you want to disable or delete from context menu,

During Installation there is an option to remove the selected 'Context menu' and the file association should not include .zip, .iso and .rar
Good luck.

Instead of playing around in the registry:
- uninstall VLC. Keep your user settings if you want.
- download vlc installer again http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
- during installation uncheck the 'context menu' install option.
